Training

Sexocorporel was developed at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) by Professor Jean-Yves Desjardins in the 1970s. It is based on precise clinical observations that incorporate the latest scientific knowledge, observations and experiences with students with good sexual functioning, and studies of physical expression in healthy subjects. It is based on a concept of sexual health, which is based on a comprehensive and integrative view of the various components of sexuality: components of identity, physiological, intrapsychic (sexodynamic), cognitive and relational components. In the human body these components are combined.

The Sexocorporel offers therapists, professionals from other fields related to human sexuality, and all other interested parties an understanding of human sexuality (including genitality). It provides effective instruments for diagnosis and treatment, especially for improving or restoring the sexuality of patients and clients with corresponding concerns, as well as teaching instruments, for example for sex education.

The present curriculum defines the levels of training for the profession of “clinical sexologist Sexocorporel ISI clinical sexologist ISI”. Further, subject-specific curricula, e.g. sex education, are in planning.

The training courses in Germany and German-speaking Switzerland are conducted by the Zurich Institute for Clinical Sexology and Sexual Therapy (ZISS). Information on current and future training courses can be found here ZISS training courses.
